Celebrating 100 years of service in South Shields, Jarrow, Hebburm, Sunderland, Newcastle

Celebrating 100 years of service!

We extend a warm welcome to all new patients and of course those who are already part of our family, we thank you for your continued trust in us. St. Michael’s Dental Practice is celebrating its 100th year providing the community with outstanding quality service and care. The practice was established in 1913 by Ernest Spencer. Mr Spencer also lived at the practice with his family but was forced to close it for a short time when he was called for National Service.

The practice only offered private dental care until 1948 when the NHS was established, from then on both NHS and private treatments became available. Over the years, several dentists have owned the practice such as Hylton Parkes and more recently Mr Alan Dinning. They are both still remembered today for their contribution and care to the community.

In 1973, Peter Halling joined the business as a partner and became Principal in 1986 renaming the Practice Peter Halling and Associates. Mr Halling was a key part of the practice for 37 years, contributing not only to dentistry within South Shields but also in his charitable involvement within the local Rotary Club.

Mr Singh, already a valued dentist with the practice since 1991, took over in 2006 and renamed the practice St Michael’s Dental Practice after St. Michael’s Church, which is directly opposite. Under his leadership, the practice has gone from strength to strength.

Mr Singh is totally committed to providing a high quality of dental care in a friendly, caring environment, and has attended many postgraduate courses. These include a year-long aesthetics course in Manchester, where he gained a Certificate in Cosmetic Dentistry, an 18-monthlong course in implant dentistry at Sheffield Dental Hospital and he has a Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the University of Gothenburg. He also has advanced training in the administration of Botox and Restylane and maintains a special interest in all aspects of facial, cosmetic and implant dentistry.

He is also a founding member of a very worthy charity called ‘Smiles Across Nepal’. The charity raises awareness of dental health education in Nepal, one of the most deprived countries in the world and helps provide dental care to local communities and outreach centres where dental provision is non-existent.

St Michael’s Dental Practice offers both quality private and NHS care and prides itself on its personal approach to patients.

All the dentists have successfully completed many years of extensive postgraduate training, achieving additional qualifications in their chosen area of expertise and the dedicated support team have all had further training and achieved additional qualifications.

This enables them to provide the best quality care for all their patients. As well as routine dental care, the dentists also visit local schools and residential homes to provide care and advice to the South Tyneside community.
